Non-resident Fellowdr.f.shaban@gmail.com Dr. Fateh Shaban is a distinguished Human Geography scholar whose academic career and research have been significantly shaped by the Syrian conflict. After completing his education in Syria and Egypt, including a PhD in 2013, he has built an academic career combining academic research with practical policy implementation. Dr. Shaban’s research focuses on critical areas including political geography and geopolitics, education in conflict zones, and infrastructure impacts of war on the local community in Syria. Dr. Shaban holds a researching position at the University of Kent's School of Politics and International Relations in the UK, where he leads seminars on Critical Geopolitics and the Politics of the Middle East. His current research focuses on the two faces of international aid in Syria. Dr. Shaban’s academic excellence has been recognized through his appointment as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2023).
